The economic, cultural and educational centre of Macedonia is situated at both banks of the Vardar River. The larger part of the city was rebuilt after the earthquake of 1963.
Skopje will charm you with its rich cultural heritage. The memories of numerous buildings from the Turkish Period, for example the Daut Pasha Hamam (the former swimming pool complex turned into an art gallery), the Kale Fortress above the city (a contemporary art museum), the Orthodox Church of St. Saviour and typical mosques, will live on for many years after your journey is complete.
