Restrictions on the Import of Foodstuffs in the EU

Passengers are advised to check the list of items which may be brought into the territory of the European Union prior to travel.

Strict control over the import of meat, milk, fish, shellfish and products thereof is necessary to protect humans and animals against diseases which may be transmitted by these products.

If the customs service discovers the presence of prohibited foodstuffs of animal origin when performing a routine inspection of personal luggage, it shall confiscate them.
