Flights Munich - Sofia

Welcome to Sofia

Perhaps a little less well known than other cities in the region, but no less inspiring and interesting, Sofia can also boast the status of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This young, modern capital with a history dating back thousands of years will charm you with its vibrancy and friendly inhabitants.

Home to just over a million people, it is a city of contrasts and interesting details. Recent archaeological digs have uncovered a treasury of Roman ruins from more than 2,000 years ago. The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, one of the greatest architectural achievements anywhere in the Balkans, is simply breathtaking. Sofia is also home to beautiful museums and galleries. The Rila Monastery boasts wonderful frescoes, while the beautiful and colourful images in the interior of the Boyana Church will transport you straight back to the Middle Ages. Quaint yellow trams will whisk you along the modern paved streets of the capital for just under a euro. Attractive footpaths will take you to the summit of Vitosha, the mountain rising above the city. In winter you can ski down one of its many well-groomed ski slopes or hike to the "stone rivers" at its foot.

Sofia Airport

Sofia Airport

Compared to other European hubs, Bulgaria's international airport is small and easily manageable. Around 70 aircraft land at Sofia Airport every day and the airport serves nearly three million passengers a year.

Since 2015 the airport's Terminal 2 has been connected to the city by a metro line, which will take you to the centre of Sofia in 20 minutes for just under a euro. The official "OK Supertrans" taxis are also very reasonably priced.
