Karver is located in the heart of Podgorica on the bank of the Ribnica. It is special kind of "open space" situated below the bridge linking the old centre to the new part of the city, where a building that was once a hammam – an old Turkish bath – has been converted into a bookshop, reading room, art gallery and café.
The shelves are stocked with a wide range of Southern Slavic, Albanian and foreign literature – more than 6,000 titles all told. Here you can also find works by Montenegrin artists and drink an excellent coffee. Karver hosts literary nocturnes, concerts, projections, lectures, talks and other events, making it a popular gathering place for intellectuals and artists.
