The Lakes, Copenhagen – beauty in the middle of the city
12 km from Copenhagen Airport
These three rectangular lakes – Sankt Jørgens Sø (Saint George's Lake), Peblinge Sø (Student Lake) and Sortedams Sø (Black Pond Lake or Black Dam Lake) – have significantly influenced the appearance of modern Copenhagen and may be considered one of the Danish capital's more important sights. Although the lakes played a very important role in the Middle Ages, today they are merely a decorative attraction – but one of which Copenhagen is proud. On sunny days their shores fill with walkers, runners, cyclists and families with children. Visit one of the nearby cafes or the Tycho Brahe Planetarium – Denmark's most advanced centre for the promotion of scientific knowledge and the popularisation of astronomy and space research.
