Winter thrills in Bansko
Live your own World Cup experience
At the northern end of Bulgaria's Pirin Mountains, a large part of which is protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, lies Bansko, the biggest ski resort not only in Bulgaria but in the whole of the Balkans. Although nothing like as well known as the famous ski centres of France, Switzerland or Italy, this Bulgarian resort is increasingly attracting the attention of skiing enthusiasts. With 70 kilometres of runs at altitudes ranging from 990 to 2,600 metres above sea level, there is plenty of variety for demanding skiers and beginners alike. The position of the resort and the fact that all the runs are equipped with snowmaking facilities guarantees long-lasting skiing from December until April or even May. It is not only the chance to ski runs on which the world's top skiers compete for the World Cup that keep people returning to Bansko: it is also the friendly Balkan atmosphere, the great food and the moderate prices.
