At a joint press conference held today at Maribor Edvard Rusjan Airport, representatives of Adria Airways, Aerodrom Maribor and London Southend Airport presented the new Adria Airways scheduled service between Maribor and London.

Return flight MBX–SEN from just €69

Starting on 1 June 2015, Adria Airways will operate three flights a week between Maribor and London Southend. Slovenia's flag carrier will operate this service between Maribor Edvard Rusjan Airport and London Southend Airport on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings, using an Airbus A319 or a Bombardier CRJ900. Flights are on sale from 30 March, with prices starting from €69 return including taxes.

In his opening address, Adria CEO Mark Anžur underlined the importance of this new connection for the capital of Slovenia's north-eastern Štajerska region: "We are very pleased that Adria Airways and Maribor Airport have established a scheduled service to London. This is extremely important both for the local community and for the wider region. Adria Airways plans to offer one-way and return flights from Maribor Edvard Rusjan Airport at very competitive prices. We are counting above all on passengers from Maribor, Graz, Ljubljana and Zagreb, and of course from London."

Scheduled service from Maribor Edvard Rusjan Airport

This regular service from Maribor offers new opportunities and is extremely important for the region – for its development and for the possibilities it offers. According to Marko Gros, the Director of Aerodrom Maribor, the long-term success of the project will also depend on good cooperation between the local community and national tourism organisations. "For Aerodrom Maribor as a company and for Maribor Edvard Rusjan as an airport, cooperation with Adria Airways represents the start of a long-term partnership. Maribor Edvard Rusjan Airport is ready to receive passengers from all over the world and to provide them with a high-quality service. We are very proud of our infrastructure and our staff. That is why we hope that the tourism industry and the local communities of the entire region will see this cooperation as a long-term opportunity. The long-term success of a project of this kind depends on all of us."

One of the advantages of this new service between the recently renovated Maribor Airport and London Southend – a new, modern, rapidly growing airport with an excellent direct rail connection to central London (London Liverpool Street Station) – is the relatively small size of both airports, which enables rapid and efficient passenger handling. London Southend Airport Chief Commercial Officer Roger Clements expressed his satisfaction at the new service: "We are absolutely delighted that Adria Airways has chosen London Southend Airport above all the other London airports. We look forward to a great partnership that will offer passengers the opportunity to enjoy the attractions of London and, in the other direction, to discover the beauties of the Maribor area and the rest of Slovenia." Mr Clements also had some good news for the first passengers to use the new service between Maribor and London: for the first two months (June and July), every passenger arriving at London Southend will be offered a complimentary train ticket to central London.

Satisfaction at the new service was also expressed by Sašo Ignjatovič, an adviser to the management board of Delavska Hranilnica d.d., Aerodrom Maribor's majority shareholder: "Delavska Hranilnica is pleased to announce that tomorrow sees the start of a success story for Maribor Edvard Rusjan Airport which, together with our partner Adria Airways, will put the Štajerska region back on the map as regards aviation. We expect the competitively priced service that we are introducing between Maribor in London to be a great success and to make a significant contribution both to the Štajerska region and to Slovenia as a whole."
